The secret life of a Nixon kid

Politically, I'm more conservative than I'm given credit for, due in large part, I think to heredity and environment (I grew up in a Republican area), so I was something of a supporter of Richard Nixon when he was President (the worst thing about that time, at least in my opinion, was that the public mood favored someone like Nixon). I did, however, go off the reservation often.


I clicked with Dick,


I thought he was the one,


Now more than ever...


Oh, but there was another side.


 


I laughed at the mimics


who did his voice,


I even traded a pair of peace signs


with a pair of rad-libs while traveling


through a college town.


 


Spiro was my hero,


I pulled for Tricky Dick,


But Masters would have to know


about my musical "distilled spirits".


 


I was vulnerable  when


I heard the Midnight Cowboy's


sad lament,


Like my youth, the song was sad and lonely.


Hope Tricia never knew.

Steve,

I'm one of them, too. Conservative, Republican, what have you - we pin our hopes on a man, and more often then not, are sorely disappointed when they don't live up to our expectations. Well penned.
