DEFEAT IN THE MORNING

                                   Yep, I'm down once more

                                   checking the morning mail.

                                   And sure enough, here are                              

                                   those brain dead magazines 

                                   again and yet more bills and

                                   endless, endless fliers.

                                   Oh, why aren't there calls

                                  please to some glorious event,

                                  or grand achievement or

                                  a poignant letter from

                                  a  long lost darling

,                                 telling me she still cares?

                                 The sun's warm, though, today

                                 and the skies are clear,

                                 and I'll be shuffling on

                                 through my paces

                                 until I check 

                                 the  mail again tomarrow,         

                                 and the morning after that.
