I read between the lines
and come up with my first clue
that something was up,
and believe me, I'm long overdue
for something to happen
that would brighten my way
and give me something exciting in my life
than monthly bills to pay.
All day long, I'd been restless and moving
Every five minutes I checked the mail
and then the phone for messages
until my dad threatened to attach me
to one place with a nail.
Finally, the truck pulled up to the box
and the mail lady dropped off the letter
I read the return address
and felt worse instead of better.
My hands shook so bad
that I took the letter to dad.
He read it to me slowly. It said
Some of your poems made us happy,
but others made us sad,
and in the end we decided that your
work would fit really well
into our mission, so if your willing
your book we'll publish and sell.
