Smoke and terror, and
sobbing steel --
indescribable emotions
in a cacophony of hell:
screaming men,
in pain, in fear,
in dying rage.
Crimson waters surge,
helping floating bodies
finally attain the beach.
Insanity roars in searing blasts
of dirt and steel and gore,
but men keep coming,
coming,
coming
till they overwhelm the guns.
They'll win the beach,
treading upon the dead.
Yes, I get emotional
when I see the glistening fields --
echelons of crosses
framed in verdant peace.
For many men,
remembrances awaken,
faces
faces,
in overwhelming numbers.
Yet, sometimes I envy the dead
just a bit
they never have to dream
the dreams of screaming faces.

This poem is a graphic portrayal of the reason we need to remember sacrafices made for our country by valiant men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I can see it, Dallas. Yes, I can see it in the tapestry of words painted on the canvas of my mind. Thank you for sharing with us a reminder of the reason we celebrate--We celebrate the courage and determination of our heros, even while we mourn our losses and "envy the dead just a bit."
War is always cruel, and this poem puts the picture in vivid words.
Loss of lives and limbs pale in comparison to loss of a lifetime,
a zombie existence after the war.
Only there who have been there can truly, effectively pen the horrors of war - chilling. Shattering. God bless those who put themselves in harm's way, to defend our shores, to keep said horrors from coming inland, here. Well done, Dallas.

And there should be more of these, to remind others that Memorial Day is more than picnics and sales!!!!
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
Perhaps "..Quiet Storm" will help rekindle old flames buried and long forgotten or express the love so deeply locked inside of your soul longing to be released.
Regardless of where you may be found in love this beautiful masterpiece can be
