Child of the Stars

So many versions of my creation
come from the minds of those
who've come before me with
their own queries.  To whom
did they make known
their own request?

Am I a product of the stars,
their raging stellar winds expelling
mass into the chaos, to finally
cool and coalesce by gravity,
then soaking into primordial soup,
shocked into life's travails by
a blast of power from angry skies?

Or am I clay, molded into form,
then shocked into life's travails
by the very breath of God?
It's all a matter of definition, yet
upon closer examination,
much the same experience.

The real question lies in this:
now that I'm here ... what then?
Am I merely dust or clay, still
carrying the synapses of that
beginning, then doomed
to lose it all when the system
fails to regenerate?

What of my works, my contribution?
does it all come to naught, after
countless days of living, breathing,
taking up space to provide for my
family, who are on that same
meaningless trek to oblivion?
Nay!  I refuse to accept such a
bleak existence, simply offered
from another finite mind.
What do they know?

I believe that life
is in the living, and that
destination is in the travel.
I am alive today, and I'll make
the best of that, for myself, and
those around me.  I will share
experiences, weave my tales,
excite and delight my audience,
then when I am gone, perhaps
they can pass it on.

Life is a huge theater, upon
whose stage I have been thrust
somewhat unwillingly, and yet
I'll play my part and at the
final curtain, I shall bow, and
accept the fate that lies offstage
as just another part of the journey.
What it shall be, I do not know
and yet, this I do believe:
It shall be!

A wonderful testament to your faith and beliefs. I think the crux of all of it are these lines:
"Nay! I refuse to accept such a
bleak existence, simply offered
from another finite mind.
What do they know?"

This is great stuff Dallas. Very powerful and provoking!! Lovely use of words, vivid description, brilliant combos. Are we nihilists or something more? I often ponder this myself. I choose the latter. I believe the journey too IS the experience. This is just a brief stop.

This really touched me as I am going through a tough time right now and you really wrote some brilliant things here, delving into the great questions of life and death that we all have at sometime in our lives. I especially love the title, as it is how I think of my brother now that he has passed. Great stuff.

Dallas,

I really enjoyed this. Ironically, this came after a conversation with a friend, topic: "Why are we here". Well, there's the answer, because we are.
