Slain

A poem about a bygone era.

Slain

 

Gather ‘round, my dearest friends,

Help me to my feet;

Though I am the victor here,

It feels much like defeat.

 

I slew my competition

Ere I ever felt the pain,

And discovered though I’d won

I also had been slain.

 

For my Lady’s name and honor

My gauntlet I have cast,

So tell her … tell her …

Before I breathe my last….

 

Tell her that for her honor

I bravely faced my death,

And her name was on my lips,

Spoken with my last breath.
