This came just days before my resignation as Chairman of the Board of a dying church. It was a terrible time in my life - an experience that still keeps me out of organized religion.
Give Me A Break
Like a creche
of hungry, spoiled
little children cry,
these people are a
broken church
...I sigh!
Of playing church
with such as these,
I'm tired --
I'm just a simple
volunteer,
not hired;
just give me a break,
would you,
...please?
I'm just so tired
of supposed friends
as these:
they nag and cut,
in bloodfeast as
shark-infested waters;
then in shock
they're taken aback,
wondering what's the matter.
I'm simply tired
of imitations;
of people playing games,
and I need a rest
from the vicious press
of their serpent's fangs.
Why is it that church's are expected to prosper? I agree with you and am sorry that you had to go through that--when so-call, good, people show their real side.
I am familiar with the things of which you write, and have experienced its horrible backlash. The only conclusion I have come to is that many, not all, but many Christians do not understand the difference between living a religion and living a spiritual life.
I hope you have found rest from the serpent's fangs. Enjoyed.

Good place to be Dallas. Out of it. I believe in God personally; but its my own interpretation. That's the way it should be. Not big on the self-righteous types at all. But I do believe in spirituality. "Religion is for those who don't want to go to Hell, spirituality for those who've been to Hell and back!"
