The Face of Tomorrow

Look at her,
smooth cheeks of youth,
innocent eyes, yet
farseeing, deep-seeing,
absorbing the lessons,
the living, the being
of life -- our lessons.

No teacher can sway her,
no obstacle delay her,
she will live in the joy,
remember the sorrow.
A blank page, upon which
we write tomorrow.
What, pray tell,
will she become?

Life lessons engulf her,
an oceanic spray of knowledge;
it seethes and boils,
charging and retreating,
endless repeating,
our everyday lives.
She sees it all.  How
will she respond?

Lessons taught, lessons learned,
homework comes and goes;
amidst it all, unwavering eyes
are fixed on the ebb and flow
of the true model -- everyday life.
What, pray tell, will she become?
She will become as we are!

I hope that our children are wise enough to see the mistakes we make and not make the same mistakes...
But when I look at the faces of my children I am amazed by their courage, their wisdom, and their...nobility... I only hope they will continue on in the same vein.

hopefully what we teach our children is to develop themselves ... though a little of ourselves naturally rubs off ...

well written prose ...

What, pray tell, will she become?
She will become as we are!

Perhaps, Dallas; however, one can always hope she will turn out better in some way. Thank you for provoking thought. Love and peace,

Excellent lines. Love , hope, and anxiety are each creatively handled. Enjoyed.

That time of life so full of possibilities, captured so well in your poem

Your point is valid, but sometimes they turn out a much better, more efficient and classier model than those who steered her down life's road. At least we can hope so.

Beautifully written Dallas. I often have these same thoughts regarding my daughter. As long as she's nothing like me, I'll be happy:-)
