A Mother's Farewell

My Mum passed away on January 11, and this just came to me.

Although my body’s tired and weak


And death is very near


Don’t be afraid for me


The futures very clear


 


God lent me to this earth


To do what I should do


And I have proved my worth


By giving birth to you


 


Now you must carry on


From where I finished off


You must carry on my son


In spite of those who scoff


 


For there is only one right way


A road you must follow


Start on that road today


For I’ll be gone tomorrow


 


But I’ll be watching from above


For now and evermore


Watching with undying love


Til’ we meet at Heaven’s door.

Hi Tony,
I am just a reader on authors den, so sometimes I just scan through looking at all different kinds of poetry or short stories. There is some amazing talent on this site, and you should really be proud of your work here. This poem about your mum is soooo beautiful! It sounds like it came straight from your heart and you are missing her very much. I really can't express how this poem has affected me, I lost my mother in 1999 and this is exactly what I would have liked to have written myself. Your pen is truly laced with truth and emotions. You should really be proud of this work, I am sure your mum would be. Beautiful, just truly beautiful!!

This is a beautiful tribute and on March 15, 2001 my mother died from cancer. She was ninty and left us many memories.

so sorry for your loss; this is very beautiful! i lost my mother too, but she died on st. patrick's day, march 17, 1990, nearly fifteen years ago. i still miss her every day!
