Cheer up it can only get worse.

Poem Artwork

Life just gave you lemons

And you made lemonade

But the lemons were all moldy

The flavor off a shade

 

No one would ever drink it

No one, not even you

Because drinking moldy lemonade

Is not the wisest thing to do

 

Remember lemons have a season

You have second chance

Make yourself a fresh batch of lemonade

And experience all of life’s romance

 

You only have this life but once

It would be a pity if you fail

For you alone are in control

Not fate as some would wail

 

Take a long look in the mirror

Be pleased with what is there

Welcome to the human race

With our miseries to share

When I'm down in the dumps, I'll think of lemonade and fresh starts. God gives second chances, too, something I've often been thankful for.

You have a kind of Groucho (Grouchy?!) Marx humour in this one, Patrick, which is bittersweet but which is undeniably clownish as if to bring a smile to a world-weary face. Thank you for this intention - and it has certainly worked for me, not least because your talk of lemons is so visceral that my mouth is actually getting that tart-taste and watering! I do hope Karla appreciates when she has her head back out from underneath the duvet, bless her. I'm sure she will. xx
