The Cult

This poem is the very first poem I wrote, before I began to take writing very seriously. I got heavily involved with a very controlling church group . It was very easy for me to do because I came from an abusive family situation. I was certainly looking for love and acceptance in all the wrong places. I left the cult and began attending a very loving church. I joined the writer's group in that church and this poem was published in their church journal. Thus began my healing process. I have been totally delivered from the abuses I suffered from this cult. Many people who eventually left this cult no longer believes in God. I am very thankful, I was able to leave and still have faith . May God continue to bless them abundantly. Incidentally, my mother who subjected me to a lot of physical and verbal abuse later became a christian , she was instrumental in praying for me for many years. I have since forgiven her, but make no mistake about it one can't completely forget. My healing really began through my writing, first this poem then the one titled "Mother, Mother" Writing has proven to be my best form of therapy. It seems once the words are written a major transformation takes place.

I knew deep inside something was very wrong,
yet, I was too steep in self-pity to run away
I wanted so badly to be loved that I gladly
gave up my freedom of will only to sadly
find more despair.

I had nowhere to run, every passing day
was like a true nightmare.  I tried with much
prayer to declare my desire to flee, but each
day my leader with rare words convinced me
to beware that God would turn against me
if I dared go elsewhere.

The fear was too much to bear, so I swore not
to go anywhere.  Aware of my scare, my
leader spared no time to prepare me for
more brainwashing.

My welfare meant nothing to this people
with every glare and stare my leaders shared
their ruse to deceive so they can continue
to get a fair share of GOD'S tithes.

Unfair as it may seem, I allowed this affair
to continue, until it was almost too late
God's love and grace spared me of more nightmare
Quietly thinking of God's grace while sitting in my rocking chair
I began to allow God to repair my heart
and to prepare me for a much better future.

So here I am neither here or there, cause
God answered my family's prayer and
delivered me from this wretched cult!!

Why does God allow evil cults to exist in his name. I'm glad you tore yourself free.
