A man of means
though not the means that work,
more inclined to look away
than tackle any kind of 'Help you say.'
Just not his way
to throw in a hand
rather stand and watch
than even understand.
But then came the day
his bank to a tumble
and all his means
dropped into insignificant numbers.
Shocked he was
needed a listening ear
but when he looked
there was no one there.
Could not afford
the style he had enjoyed
even sacked the gardener
along with his cook,
thought he was in charge of his life
now he having to take
a second look.
No longer the man
of independant means
he was just like the rest
a man in need,
had not made friends like all the others
so now he groans
and quietly suffers.
But then one day
his ex-gardener came his way
saw the grass was high
and offered to cut it for no pay.
'I hate seeing a lawn in tatters.' he said
made the man feel humble
after they shared some bread.
Soon he found the way
away from his torment
he learnt to be friendly
and not stand aside,
never again did he feel so lofty
it was no great deal
having the means
all that was treasured
was having good friends.
