they think he is lazy

even say drugs

He just smiles

gets on with his life

he knows what they think

but he has not the time.

He is a writer

dreaming up things

putting down words

some about them

and the things he has seen.

they are the characters

that lie in his manuscripts

wonder how they will feel

if they end up in a film,

wonder how Mrs. Marley

who has been outspoken

called him strange to his face

accused him of much,

yet little she knows

of his pain

and why he writes

maybe she will someday.

He is just a man

some call him foolish

be careful he might write

just what you say
