Where have you been
all of these days
when I needed you
I called out your name
yet the darkness that surrounded me
made it all in vain.
All I wanted was to know you were there
but that wretched darkness
crowded out my every care
captured my thinking
held me a prisoner within
yes I was depressed
if thats what your thinking.
Cracked up and useless
to myself and my kin
nothing but that darkness
always somewhere lurking.
I laughed at well wishes
in my head I would haste to say
its so easy for them
they are not travelling my way.
Then one day
like a shock that ran through and through
I saw my reflection
it was someone I never knew,
a pitiful man
like no life within
a face so torn up
I started sobbing.
Turned on the tap
of the hand basin
so no one would hear me
just me alone
in this place
kind of stuck with that reflection
drowning with my own.
Yet as I stood there
filled with despair
a shaft of sunlight
grazed through the window
as the curtain flickered
caught that mirror sharp
then caught my eye
removed my attention
took away all that darkness
it all departed into oblivion.
So when I called you
thought you were not there
I guess you were waiting
till at that reflection
caught my eye
till I took a long hard stare
then a deep sigh.
As I gazed at that reflection
the who I had become
it was then
when I had more than enough
you must of stepped in,
you banished the darkness
lifted the gloom
you heard me call your name
filled my life with something new.
Sunshine like a blessing
that simple
something so pure
I felt the warmth on my face
the cold of darkness
was no more.
Thank you.
This poem touched me greatly. So many suffer from depression, I for one. As like you I finally saw the light.
Love and blessings,
