An interview can unleash a nervous disposition within us.

Poem Artwork

There within

without confidence

human walls exist

as thoughts explode

implode in my head.

My confidence dims

like a far flung star in the night sky

try as I might

I feel fright and flight,

my hand hovers

having adjusted my tie

am I ready to knock at this door

rather than feel nervouly unsure.

It is just an interview

nothing more

nothing less

so why do I feel this stress,

have I dummed down

my self esteem

reduced myself to

a chilled jelly.

I knock a weak nervous call

to see the door

open wide,

come in Mr. Golitely

please take a seat

this is Mr. Fairbum

and his secretary Miss. Sweet.

I feel nerves loose their way

walls collapse

the who I am

starts coming back.

They smile as I sit

comfortable in a chiar

my confidence returns

I am finally here,

this will work out

I feel it inside

at last an opportunity

to change my life.

Didn't John Wayne say something like courage is being afraid and still saddling up anyway? You know what I think is worse than being nervous for an interview is having a cop hit those lights and siren behind you while driving down the road. I felt my blood drain every time.
