"Then There Was You" A Poem by Author/Poet, Mario Watts

Poem Artwork

I was brought into this world,

Having no doubts and knowing fears,

As I gazed into my mother’s tears,

Then there was you.

Time went by,

And I slowly learned to love,

Through denying hatred and shame,

Thinking how these things were so lame.

Thrown off track,

by bitterness and disgrace,

I wondered if I would ever find my place.

As I grew older,

My heart grew colder,

Even in times when love seemed to matter,

Seeing everyone’s pain but my own,

Then there was you.

Days, months, even years went by,

Knowing that one day,

I would fly high in your sky.

In a place where I could feel no pain,

Hoping that all my hopes and dreams, were not in vain,

Then there was you.

For a while through my challenges,

life seemed meaningless,

clouded in misery and despair,

thinking how you giving me life, was ever fair.

You promised me life,

in a world that was unforgiving,

Assuring me that by you,

I can conquer all my doubts and fears,

and all I ever had to do,

was call on only you.

So one day I challenged you,

and in a blink of an eye,

just as the days and the nights were created,

even then,

there was you.

Truly my friend he has and will always be there or there is none like him. There is not a riend like the lowly jesus, No Not One, No Not One. Wonderful and precise words. Aleja bennett

Immediately I sensed this is a modern-day psalm of praise to God. At the same time I sensed the symbolism of support groups for people who felt they had no hope, needing a shoulder to lean on. And third, I felt that it expressed the way that family should be toward one another, whether husband and wife, brothers and sisters, neighbors and communities.

It hits all possibilities in the human triad of relationships, God, Self, and Others.
