She married him for what he got! they said.
He responded, What I want you to know is
that's why I married her, for what she got!
About a year after his wife died a prominent minister and pastor of a large church in California married a member of that congregation half his age. This became not only the chatty talk among members of that congregation but the talk of the town, so to speak.
Although the most frequently voiced utterance was "She married him for what he got," there were other gossip assertions opined that included, "They (she and the pastor) were going together, meaning relating sexually, before his wife died." When asked for evidence: "How do you know? Have you seen the pastor and his wife together at any place other than at church?" The response from the chief rumor pontificator of that congregation was "I just believe they were going together. Someone told me that he saw her and the pastor leaving the Church just before midnight. When he asked her about her late outing at the Church she told him she was doing some urgent secretarial work for the pastor. She isn't his secretary."
Another person asked in a declaratory tone, "Have you seen them hugging in church?" A woman responded, "The pastor hugged me in church, and it felt good when I put my titties against his chest but we are not in a sexual relationship.
Someone else said "Something had to be going on between them before his wife died. How else can you account for them getting maried one year after his wife died? That's not long enough to end the grieving. " To that a man referred to as "Dek" said "I feel the same way; something must have been going on between them before that poor woman died." He added, "Well, I can't prove it either, but I just believe they were going together before his wife died."
Then the conversation came to the main message being most widely broadcasted: "She married him for what he got!" Someone said, "Didn't you hear the pastor say last Sunday just before he announced his text?" Someone inquired, "What did he say?" The reply, "He said, 'I'm hearing people say my wife married me for what I got, What I want you to know is that's why I married her, for what she got.'" That brought the first laughter and light moment since the conversation began. Someone added sarcastically or gleefully, "She's got a big butt."
The sound bite version of this gossip/chatty talk is: "He got money; she got game."
The discussion of this subject did not cease until about two years after their marriage when the membership split and about half of the members joined with the pastor in establishing another church in that city.
On reflection, this question may be asked, "Is there parity for her and him?" If so, so what? If not so, so what? The relevance of this question is for those who are in an intimate relationship where there is a Most Significant Other.
Ha! Ha! Ha! "I married her (him) for what he (she got!" Me too!
