A Prayer of Comfort offered by Uriah J. Fields, a brother of the deceased:

We have gathered here to celebrate the life of David Fields. He was a unique person, as you will hear from persons offering reflections. Because a person is not on the road you are I may be on does not mean that he is lost.

"When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
"It is well, It is well, with my soul, with my soul.
It is well, It is well with my soul."

O gracious, almighty and eternal God our Father, even now, we ask for Your presence to truly be "God with us" in this time when we have gathered in this memorial service for David Fields whose soul has departed from his mortal body to be closer to You.

We remember him as a husband, father, soldier, servant, encourager, and friend. He challenged us by his own life of service, caring, and beauty to be all, O God, You meant for us to be. He laughed often and he made us laugh. He lived life to the fulll.

Our hearts are heavy with sadness, but we will rejoice. For we know that "it may be dark for a night, but joy will come in the morning." Bless the younger brother of the deceased who is about to deliver the Eulogy.

O God, our strength and joy are in You. Grant us comfort and peace.

"And, O Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend,
"Even so" - it is well with my soul.

This is our prayer in the name of God the Father, Jesus the Christ of our Lord and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
