I sing every day.
I cannot remember a day, however early in my life,
when I didn't engage in solo singing.
Singing is as much a part of me as walking, talking
and eating, also things that I do every day.
My singing for the most part is a practice or
reherasal that I do mostly when singing a capella.
However, sometimes I play the harmonica before,
during or after singing, although I cannot sing and
play the harmonica in the same breath. When I
play the harmonica my name is "Uriah Harp."
During my one-hour-plus early morning walk which
I do five or six days a week I sing, practicing songs
that I composed and songs by other composers.
I have composed lyrics and lead sheet music for
more than one hundred songs. My music repertoire
continues to expand. Below are some of the songs
I have composed:
I'll sing the song of my life in the key of love,
I'll sing the song that says give all to love;
And in a world where joy is seldom known
I'll sing my song wherever I go for anyone
who extends to me his listening ear and
open heart, an invitation to be troubadour.
Maybe after listening to my melody, he will
begin to sing his own love song.
Often before eating I sing this grace:
Let us sing grace before we eat...
We thank You, Dear God, for enabling
us to break bread together and for
this food that we are about to
receive to nourish our bodies.
Bless it to our use and us in your service,
And so it is.
This is one of my favorite songs which I sing
with gusto during many of my morning walks, to
the delight of people I encounter:
Sing your own song and make your own music;
You are a natural-born musicmaker and the chief
musician of your life.
The music and lyrics within your soul
anxiously wait to be expressed in song.
The turbulent-like vibrations in your soul
will not subside until you give a winged
voice to your soul's muisc.
So lift up your voice and sing;
Let the music be heard in resounding song;
The angels are waiting for you to sing your song;
Others may listen to you sing your song
and they may enjoy your muisc;
But only you can sing your song;
Let this refrain, "Sing your own song"
frequently remind you to "Sing your own song."
I don't need an audience in order to sing, although
sometimes I have one, that may consists of singing
birds or gazing deer, and people who I am unaware
of listening to me sing until they approach me with
glee and say, "I enjoyed your singing or playing.
Apart from these audiences, in consciousness I
am aware that there are invisible listeners that
include the one who writes the songs for the
birds to sing and angels that sometimes I hear
singing above my head, and move me to say,
"I hear music above my head!"
Thomas Carlyle made a noteworthy request when
he said, "Give us, oh, give us, the man who sings...!"
To this appeciator of singing and all the residents
on Earth and in Heaven I declare,"
"Though none sing with me, I will still continue
to sing."
How can I keep from singing?
I cannot and be authentic personality?
For me not to sing is to experience death of my soul.
My songs are hymns of praise to the glory of life.
Sometimes people ask me "Will your songs remain?"
I say to them "My songs are love songs, and love
has no end. But I do not know if my songs will
survive my mortal existencee. But often when I
sing I experince Eternity."
