ELEGY

Lia
trying to hold onto your eggshell world
shunting the tentacles of nihilism
Lia
for you
people not just faceless phantoms
but humans struggling with survival
the violence of homelessness, competition
and terrorism.
Lia
Quivering soul
running from original sin and temptation
seeking a balanced planet
seeing disintegration / annihilation
pollution / exploitation
unfathomable gorges of trash filled alleys,
crumbling tenements, foreclosures poverty.
Lia
too pure your eyes/your dreams
mesmerized before the temple
your porcelain being cracked
you tumbled into the subverted underground
of a heartless city,
the boils of your inconsistencies started to ooze
poisoning your still young possibilities.
Lia
your silk-spun thread of life
run bare
severed, you are no more than a distal memory
victim of dissolution and a moral lassitude.
That night in January
Your nerves/body/heart fused
shorted out by too many drugs
your soul flowed north to the cold unknown
beyond earth’s shadow.
Lia,
you became a dark zephyr
framed by fire.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
