She walks toward me across the sand Vacant eyes and tear stained cheeks She reaches up to take my hand I look and ask, "What is it you seek?" Words are formed within my mind As she tells me of her parents lost, She sobs, her home she cannot find. All that's left, a single post. A woman cries upon the sand Muddied clothes, and bloodstained hair. She reaches out to touch my hand. She takes the child and hugs her there. While walking back across the sand I see in the flotsam lying there The lady and child, hand in hand Lapping waves gently stroke their hair Robin A Spicer 3rd January 2005

You given me chills with this piece, Robin, there are levels and tangents woven skillfully between the lines, between the very words... But the worst is the horror of loss of everything, loss of landed feet, of stability for the child and for the woman who died, clasped together, and with the frozen stretch of death's lifeless visage which swept all traces of 'home' away. I could not imagine such horror happening to me... At the same time, your style of composition and inflection lends an impersonality that helps a reader 'see' with starker absorbtion, causing rereading without caution, then, projecting the reader's basest fears into images painted on their souls with your words.

A brilliant, painfully-felt, vivid masterpiece.
