A rather long Poem about Religion? Actually I was just doodling.

CHRISTENDOM

You have knocked on my door, with your message of love.

Of a man who was slain, nailed to a stake,

You preach, he’s the son, of god above,

Sent here on earth, to die for our sake.

And yet, when I listen, to your powerful voice,

I hear the voice of another.

Not the sound of one with a choice

But commands of a general, issuing orders.

You come to me, with false humility

Your smile a façade, your pride not concealing.

Your palms outstretched, soliciting money,

For the hungry you say, the sick and for healing.

What of these gifts, so willingly given,

For what are they used? , not that which you said.

You use them to further your own claim to heaven,

And you shrug off your vow to the sick and the widowed.

Yes, now I have seen you for just what you are’

I have walked among you, and I have listened.

I have heard your message, from near and afar.

I wonder, in whose name, your followers are christened.

Grotesque forms, are no longer hidden,

A true message of love, will reach you too late.

Blinded with pride,, and self indulgent passion,

You continue to preach, your tidings of hate.

Yes, now I know you, I know of your works,

Your blind adherence, to your separate doctrines,

Your words are of honey, within you there lurks

A power of evil, sucking us dry, with fear of your sin.

You are known to us all, by many a name,

Each one declaring their right to the truth.

Yet, the message you bring is always the same,

Falsehood and hatred, lies and untruth.

Look now around you and see what you’ve done,

In Bogside and Shankill, the Islands and more.

All in the name, of your Gods only son,

You have brought with you hatred, misery and war.

You have killed off whole nations, in your Gods holy name,

And persecute other’s,  who do not believe.

As you go forth, in your unholy game,

You leave sons and their mothers in anguish and grief.

You say that has changed, and is all in the past,

As you shake by the hand, you’re opposite number.

Secretly wishing, he’d breathe his last

When you’re abed, how well do you slumber

All over the world, you are spreading like lice,

Grasping and clutching, forcing your way

Saying that now we must all pay the price

Your message of death, your great judgment day.

No longer great armies await your command

You lurk in the shadows, biding your time.

Yet you still strive for power all over the land

Converting whole families, with your guilt and your crime.

The message was clear with, no particular name

To separate those that would teach it.

No separate reward, for competitive fame.

And numbers of converts, and sole rights to preach it

Oh Oh! Now you have let the cat out of the bag. Better watch out or they will kill you.

Nowhere else will you hear hate and the devil preached ad naseum but in organized religion. Nice work. Thoughtful too.
