It Is There

This is a dream I use to have as a little boy. You know, way back in ancient times. (lol)

My nemesis is a hideous creature, always
plotting a way to keep me within reach.
It waits silently laying out the groundrules
for our encounter.

Lurking in a dark corner of my closet with
nothing better to do... preying on the weak.
This, its only concern. Nothing seems to help.
Whenever I look in that direction the door is open.

I learn quickly. Cowering only intensifies
the deep growling sounds being emitted
from the bowels of hell. Wanting to be left
alone is not possible. The mark, too easy.

Never quite getting over but learning to cope...
I face the monsters head on. Making
my own noise while running to it...
All the time with that lingering doubt.

Is it there? I believe so, but to a lesser
degree. In my mind all are similar
and individually discribed to suit. Whatever
we choose to call it......It Is There.

Paul,
I think we have all had this problem. I still cannot sleep if the closet door is open. Plus, I keep storage containers under my bed so no one can fit there...lol. This piece brings back memories. I love the ending on this because it allows us to plug in our own experiences. An eerie feel and excellent descriptions!
