Conquest

Behind every corner there seems to be an evil which waits to possess whatever is good in life.

Destined to slither forever...
Societies bane... Lifes weakness...
He crawls to the shadows and
waits for an unsuspecting victim.

Laying motionless, he poises to
strike at a moments notice.
His path is clear. A means
will not justify an end.

The target passes within range.
In an instant, with a speed
of lightning, fangs find
their mark. Venom is injected.

The prey is held tightly in his grasp,
allowing time for the poison to take effect.
Evil has done it's job,
scoring another conquest.

Paul,
I've got the heebie-jeebies now. I pictured a King Cobra making the kill! I detest and fear snakes. lol. Your comment beforehand rings true to life. That's why it's so important to enjoy the smallest amount of good before it's gone. Great poem! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

having eyes in the back of your head might help......I try to look on the positive side, though you wont find me going out alone after dark. I hope this snake doesnt poison you into forgetting the good things in life too.
I loved the way you gripped us with your words.

Well, Paul. I live in the desert. After reading all the comments, all I could think of was rattlesnakes. I tend to be practical in my living experience. Too much to enjoy in life, than look for the darkside all the time. A snake in the desert is enough negativity for me. [smiles]

Paul I too feel its presence. Sometimes I don't know where it resides. (Inside or outside of me.) Maybe it is everywhere. For it comes to attack me even at this lowly poetry site. It takes various disguises: religious, benevolent, loving; but it always has the same purpose to destroy and hurt. You feel it, but you know that God has given you the strength to overcome. Beautiful deep poem Paul.
P.S. I saw your biograpy statement. No Paul you are not "nobody." You are like all of us A CHILD OF GOD. VERY MUCH SOMEBODY AND EQUAL TO ALL IN HIS EYES. You need to take out the "I am nobody," and put in its place in capital letters. "I AM SOMEBODY." ... I am Paul Berebe, and I am somebody! For if I pass this by and let the
statement stand, I would feel like nobody too.
