The Final Chapter

No time to stop and savor life.
If I could vow to fulfill everything
that was predestined for me,
the broken promises would never occupy
a place in my soul.

If tomorrow never came I could, at least,
be at peace with myself. The time for strife
to end is beyond life. The desire and love I
find will never interfere with my final chapter.

Yes, my fear is real... and I know that one day
I will stand before my Maker to justify
the wasted time. Only then will I know
my true worth. Then and only then can I say,
I did my best.

Paul,
I like how you have the ability to take on any style and pour your heart and soul into it. We all think along these lines. The way you've put your thoughts into words has a powerful effect. Thank you for sharing this poem. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Great thought provoking write, Paul. This is something that I find constantly tripping through the back of my mind and I find that with regards to this, each day is filled with its own failures AND triumphs... I 'get a handle on this' and then 'lose the plot on that'... I often hear myself saying "slow down world, I wanna get off", but it never complies! So don't we just hang on tight and try to enjoy the view while we are absorbing and learning as much as we can without becoming insular so that we can, if we are very blessed, learn contentment with our world, ourselves and know that we are leaving something of value with the ones whose lives we share.

Well executed sentiments and self-analysis on the time that we accumulate in our lifetime...it is part of life to occupy it with the normal course of living and learning. We always reflect later, on our accomplishments and unkept promises and goals. It is a natural part of our existence. We can only hope that each day we do our best and that is all we can expect of ourselves. Well written expression.

Maybe even what you consider wasted time is not really wasted? Precious moments to others? And don't worry, HE will know that you did your best. Great write. Love. S.
