I didn't mean those things I said,
things weren't that awkward,
If I'm honest, they were just excuses,
the ramblings of a fool in denial.

I remember that way you looked
at me, then turned away,
as if I'd snapped your heart right in two,
I didn't mean for that to happen...

We were different, we were!
We were the ones,
who were supposed to last forever,
like we always said we would...

I could dress it up,
calling it
heart-breaking,
guilt-ridden,
life-changing,
and all those other idealistic cliches.
But why?

If I'm sorry for anything,
I'm sorry for making us the same
as all the others who
lost their way and fell
into a mindless trap
we were the ones
who were supposed to carry on...
