The stars tonight are hiding
in grey-blue, cloud-flecked sky,
maybe they're just taunting me,
perhaps they're just too shy.

They're watching from a distance,
I'm sure that they can see,
and maybe even smile at how
you're here, at dusk, with me.

They see that I'm here smiling,
although it doesn't show,
I'm happy being close to you
but scared that you might go.

I don't think I could take it
if you cared to walk away
and I was stood here on my own
to wave good-bye to day.

I can hold you that much tighter,
and savour all you are,
and breathe in nice smells from your shirt,
and smile back at the stars.
