Le papillon à l'aile brisée
sait qu'il ne sera jamais
une chenille de nouveau.
Je souhaite, mais n'ose pas espérer.
I once had a lover.
It's too late to risk another, these days.
These days I seem to think a lot
about the things I never got to do (with you).
These days.
😞 I will never play baseball again.
(nor football, nor tennis, nor ride a bicycle, nor...)
I will never play music or write another poem.
All of these last times have come and gone.
No more walks in the moonlight. No lovemaking.
No concerts or shows. No going to see a movie.
No vacation trips unless her friends want to go.
I just sit alone in my basement waiting to die.
(I had wanted to see Zion, Yosemite, Glacier.)
ALL OF THE THINGS I LOVE.
EVERYTHING I MOST ENJOY.
I'VE EITHER GIVEN THEM UP
OR I DO THEM ALONE!
There are many things I would like to do one more time,
before I die, but I don't suppose I will.
(I would like to have seen Montana.)
Perhaps the most difficult lesson to learn is this:
Accepting things which are beyond our control
includes the acceptance of growing older
and the disappointments that come with it.
