Just a Kiss

She could hear the air conditioner
cycle on again
as he waited for a response
to his revelation.
The mascara wand poised midair
remained motionless in her hand.

It was just a kiss, he said,
the pleading in his voice grating
on her nerves
as she fought the nausea building
in her gut.

The image of someone else --
lip to lip
body to body
heart to heart
was so much more than
“just a kiss.”

Anger and fear bubbled
through her
from the cauldron in her belly
he had created.

It was just a kiss …

Five little words that
shredded the wall of trust
they had built together.

She put down the mascara,
wiped the tears from her eyes,
took a deep breath
and left for work.

It was just a kiss.

Leysa,

Up jumps infidelity I think ... "It was just a kiss" ... well ... Indian women in the 1800s were punished for infidelity ... whatever one's meaning of this is ... by having the tips of their noses cut off, rendering them undesirable to other men. I think we have all felt this lyrical drama at one time or another. It is worse when it is your best friend! Keep your knives in the drawer Leysa and your feather quills in your writing arsenal! A sense of humor helps a lot.

You powerfully snare the moment and share it most effectively through your verses here, Leysa. Thank you. Love, peace and all good things to you.

Oh Leysa, I do hope that this is fiction. I have gone through this...it was just an email....now I know better. But we must all carry on, life is too rich to spend it with someone who does not appreciate us for the loving people that we are. Soldier on Dear.

We all make " errors of judgement " in life Leysa , what counts is the presence or absence of "intention "

Standing On My Knees by Pinkstone
