We pass in the hall
Like strangers
In a hotel corridor;
The roaring silence
Slams against the walls,
Echoes through a house
That was once a home.
An accidental touch --
We hasten to
Murmur apologies,
And quickly
Retreat to our
Respective corners.
I signed on as a lifer
Yet I have tired of
This cold war.
The wounds are deep
And need care.
I miss you
But I cannot
Find the bridge
To us.
I await in my bunker
For the dropping
Of the final bomb.

We pass in the hall

Like strangers
In a hotel corridor;
The roaring silence
Slams against the walls,
Echoes through a house
That was once a home.
An accidental touch --
We hasten to
Murmur apologies,
And quickly
Retreat to our
Respective corners.
I signed on as a lifer
Yet I have tired of
This cold war.
The wounds are deep
And need care.
I miss you
But I cannot
Find the bridge
To us.
I await in my bunker
For the dropping
Of the final bomb.

The "chill" in relationships is horribley confounding, when once you reached and connected warmly! That is the sorrow of the coldness. Great write, Ley!
