Sex Machine

I am once again relegated to the wet spot;

The dampness between my legs chafes

As does the realization that sex is not enough.

I search for sleep and answers amid the ravaged sheets,

While your head rides comfortably on soft pillows;

Your throat down-shifts a snore.

My attempt to drowse is overridden by

The rumbles of noise and of thoughts.

Sex has become our most productive form

Of communication,

But the transmission ends with the last sigh.

In the death throes of the afterglow

I find myself unfulfilled on a level

An orgasm cannot reach.

You know all my secret places;

With you I am a well-oiled

Highly responsive machine --

But machines have no souls.

I shift from the wet spot on the bed

And on my cheek.

Sleep finally overtakes me and

I dream of destinations unknown.

" ... Sex has become our most productive form of communication ..." it is so sad, when relationships/marriages reach the stage where the only thing that is left is sex - and ofcourse, you'll be lucky if the only thing that is left is sex as others have nothing at all! no passion, just glares! Well penned, Leysa!

God bless,

Sandie.

Leysa this sounds like a cry for passion. I'm no therapist but I would suggest that you talk to your partner about your feelings. I love your poem.....smile

an incredible insightful poem. You have written about it which shows that its preying on your mind and making you think about where you go.....perhaps all thats needed is to talk it through, perhaps the time for talk is over. I know if I found myself thinking like this, it would be time for action.
Your words sure provoked me today....this was an amazing write.

Oh how deeply this one is felt by many women, if they only knew what women could do for them, perhaps they would try just a little harder to please us, and make us smile once in a while eh? Your poem touches deeply,

This is quite awakening! But it's sad too that you are not able to find fulfillment with the one in which you lay beside. Sure hope things get better for you. ~SH~

Going through the motions doesn't satisfy the hunger of a soul, as you so breathlessly point out. Beautiful work!
