My friend brought her baby by today, and as she stood, surrounded by her former co-workers, among ooohs and ahhhs, she gleamed like a new copper penny. Women -- we get so excited when babies or chocolate come into the office. This tiny new human, wrapped in pink from head to toe, slept through all the attention. She passed from shoulder to shoulder, juggled gently into new positions and angles, kissed and patted, and her sleep was only interrupted by the passing of gas. More ooohs and ahhhs from the ladies who just last night frowned at their husbands for similar offenses. As the new mom and baby left we returned to our offices, our desks, our telephones, our computers, a little jealous, a little nostalgic, and more than a little relieved.
