GENESIS/NEOGENESIS a song cycle
based on a poem by satnrose

Adapted by Joel Sattler

Part I : IN THE BEGINNING

in the beginning there was no beginning
heaven created the earth and the earth
made heaven and darkness drew tight
in the void and with a turn it all turned into light

and there was light and in its release
it divided the night and spun day out of day
and thus the first moment and the waters rolled back
and the earth the earth separated the waters this way

the waters separated the sky
and the seas rushed up on the land
and the land held back the seas
and where the land mixed with the sea and sky

and the sky mixed with the light
and then something was born and of the thing born
there turned a strand strand around strand
all movement the doubling of helix and

in Genesis
we still exist
the universe begins at birth
and when you die then all of earth
is laid in seven billion crypts
you are your own apocalypse

all things orbit each other
all things orbit themselves
the double helix takes the shape of all
and all that is and nothing else

movement within wheels
wheels within wheels within wheels
all moving together along
the line of time in a song

layers built up on layers
shining reaching for the light
one step at a time for billions
of years darkness in the dark of the night

never free of the light light not unlined
by night to this all waters flow
from one shall be many and from the many
shall be more and more from more

and shall be of a multitude each
but the infinite still out of reach
now branching up and rooting down
down from the sky and up from the ground

all from the body of singularity
first the heart and then the hands
all things turn around the eye
lifting green from the sea

spreading out over and under
the sun branching out from death
to an ever greater complexity
to fast to catch the breath

the hand follows seed each seed
contains the whole of the universe
each drop of water reflects
the same of the infinite burst

in Genesis
we still exist
the universe begins at birth
and when you die then all of earth
is laid in seven billion crypts
you are your own apocalypse

outside in but persisting inside
out the single moment forever
time is all one and what life is when
and before time there is only never

Not having read anything of yours before Joel I plunged into this one expecting a pretty good read. It was okay and you had some real rhapsodic flashes here. You kind of get off in the woods a little to me in a few of the passages. I get some very good images off the words, which bring thoughts of immense chaos into organization. A little bit of a sterile universe though, which doesn't seem to allow room for a higher power. First cause. All of creation has a beginning in thought. Something made it happen. Pretty good read in most aspects. Bob

Although nonsensical at times, the rhythm has a certain appeal.
