Collingwood, Ontario was a lakeport on Georgian Bay[Lake Huron]. Ship building was part of it's heritage and it's lifeblood. The town is still there the lakeport and the yard have gone . . .
The change from lakeport to tourist trap has not been overly kind
we'd watch'em grow
from keel to peak
behind the Woolworth at the end
of Hurontario street
frame by frame,
plate by plate
they grew
from keel to peak
boats for the seaway,
boats for the war
corvettes, and lakers
ferries and tugs
then on a festival day
the blocks knocked away
side ways she’d launch
in splash and spray
in a month or two
another would rise
growing frame by frame,
plate by plate
behind the Woolworth’s at the end
of Hurontario Street
the world has changed
no more the din of forming steel
nor the lightning flash of welding
tourists now haunt the Street
minimum wage the order of the day
the harbour is dark and silent
the shipyard is closed
no more we’ll watch ‘em grow
from keel to peak
behind the Woolworth’s
at the end of
Hurontario Street
This is not a drill. The attack on Pearl. They were the ghost planes of the night, deadly, illusive, sharp-clawed Black Cats. The Memoirs of ARM H.P. Lawrence, a Pearl Harbor survivor, Black Cat, and decorated war veteran.
