in a different style

[see also "I Was Young and Full of Myself"]

She walks the shore
wrapped in a faded sailor’s jacket
troubled by the roaring gale
and the hollow echoes
of her loving longing heart

She dreams by moonlight
of the strong young lover
who sailed off promising,
promising
what all strong young lovers
promise

She wakes in the pale dawn
chill, dew soaked after
another empty vigil
waiting in vain
for the promised return

She waits alone upon the shore
in dread and expectation
for word to come
but neither sea nor gale will
give up their secrets

In beauty she stands
naked feet ankle deep
in the cold southern sea:
looking, longing, loving
seeking one so far away,
and gone so long.

I love the way Chanti said what this poem means so I'll just echo her sentiments and hope she won't be mad at me for it. Thank you, John. Love and peace.

John you've captured this so well. Cold fingers touched me as I read your words and became achingly absorbed in the longing of the sailor's lover. How well you write.

Better to be attached to the ocean itself, always there is she/he (depending on your gender)...Ed

I dated a Navy man for many years, John and I can relate to her thoughts and emotions so very well. You really nailed this one with a direct hit to the heart.
Take care,
Sherry

Ocean' Widow

Ocean gets colder sometimes
And the waves get weaker and smaller
But still takes without hesitation
Another load ashore
Of sea bamboo restless
It takes a little longer
On a different shoulder
But bring its load
Safe ashore yes safe
Oh! Twilight flow of sea
Your some day waves curls and folds
Alongside two seagulls wander
Me lonesome lover of the sea
For eternity your ebb and flow
Sulking "widow" of the ocean
Dressed in black in mind
Oh! God beside Your
Moving waters
I miss love next to me
Where did he go
Will he be back
To walk my beach
With me some day
Like ebb and Flow
Hand in hand
You and I

Love Tinka

poignantly beautiful, you can feel her longing and despair as she waits and he doesn't come
