We all have it: I call it rhyme sight. It is that part of the writer that points out things -- images, connections, poems and possible poems...
Sometimes it happens just
like
this
six years old
black paten leather shoes
and pink poncho
walking with her mum
in the mall parking lot.
I looked at her
and
in a golden instant
I saw her
in all the roles
and stages
of her life
the giggly school girl,
the adolescent, the lover,
the career woman,
the bride,
mother, grand mother,
the matriarch of a great tribe
each stage both hard wrought
an fleeting.
then the instant passed and
she was just a six year old,
in paten leather
and poncho,
hopskipping
hrough the mall parking lot
with her mum
You know what John....this ripped my heart out...this is what my little girl looked like the day she died ...she was just a six year old, in ballet shoes and a pink tutu!!
Running through a parking lot trying to get to me in time before she went into a coma...and one of my workers found her sitting down on the sidewalk...making funny noises!!
She never said another word till she died a few hours later under surgery!!
