margin, leverage,
free market
intoned to soothe the suckers
all the high, and empty words
boil down to two fear and greed
high words, empty words: melt down, bailout,
equity position. klaxon keened
to freeze rational thought
and give scope for fear and greed.
fear and greed, greed and fear
never, ever satisfied
as those markets go rolling along
high words, empty words:
recession, depression,
the end of the world as we know it.
‘Tis but the chant of the high Prophets of Mammon,
circling their altars emploring their Baal
to light the fire and
to consume their tax deductible offering
while standing by Elijah mocks, and
sharpens his sword
