We are ingrained to believe lies at a very early age that returns when we get older and more fearful of our mortality.

Loving Lies

Our brain is putty in the hands,

of our teachers in early age.

Believing for which it stands,

filling our brain's eager page.

We are taught to memorize,

remember what the wise preach.

Not to critically analyze.

or question the wise reach.

For danger is supposed to lie,

in thinking beyond the pale.

The hierarchy may be upset,

if we all don't ride the rail.

But puberty upsets the applecart,

and all that we learned is questioned.

Radical thinking against status quo,

all that old memorized stuff pensioned.

Growing up and older in our eyes,

takes us back to learned older lies,

hardened in our childhood mind,

memories never really left behind.

They grow until we question change,

we do not want to rearrange,

we do not want the old replaced,

we find the old so good and chaste.

So, we seek out new found wise,

who share our fears and hopes.

Steadfastly holding onto lies,

as our very own security ropes.

But, good or bad, lies are lies,

and need to be exposed.

Holding onto lies and loving them,

it is not what wisdom holds.

As soon as the lies are left behind,

and the truth is finally revealed,

the awful burden of fear is gone,

and the flag of freedom, unfurled.

You are a true "hippie," Ron. I mean that as a compliment. 🍁🌼🌺

I am happy that our brothers and sisters to the south of our border saw the lies and acted accordingly at the elections. Canada and the US share more than just a border, we share life itself and what affects one...affects the other. Great write Ronald.

for which it stands, shows that your poem walks with deeper levels. You kept the rhythm throughout, holding well this battle from a child's indoctrination through the ability of a growing mind to see freely. I love your use of terms tied to our corrupted youth by the powers that try to control. Your positive view of our masses I feel is part of this ongoing US con. But to believe is the hope while open eyes and minds might be far fewer then you consider, sadly. Took me many years to finally count the fools finding way more then my child eyes could perceive. Well done!

A most appropriate poem for our times, since we are living in an era where far too many of the population are willing not only to believe lies, but also "the big lie." Sad that the truth, any truth, no longer has the status that it once had.

"and the truth is finally revealed," What an interesting assertion. In context to your premise, what truth are you talking about? rlc

Awesome, Ron! This is great. It all begins with learning about George Washington who said, "I cannot tell a lie." We dare not question authority. Then, as teens, we question everything, but are treated as though that's a threat. Wisdom is hard won and takes all our lives. Children can be so wise. It's a shame to see them lose it as they "grow up." Corrine

Your poem seems to outline what we are taught, what we cast aside in our teen years, then what we try to return to, hoping it was the truth, but might not be, even if it does feel comfy. Life is full of nuances. Thanks for sharing.
