November 16, 1979 St Paul's Cathdral, Regina, Saskatchewan There were six of us ordained to the Anglican Priesthood. I wrote this, in part, to celebrate the 23rd anniversary... j+ --------------------------------------------------------------------------
As craftman I labour on a bench of wood, with tools of sharp bright steel As poet I labour on the bench of my heart Memory and desire, intensely real But I am more than that and less, A priest ordained, and called For service at another bench By God and people blessed At this altarbench I labour not Yet have I work to do where all Our labours, loves and follies meet One who loves us, great and small. Here the holy hawk of heaven Though some have called her dove; Sits on my shoulder, and with beak And talon, teaches me of love
