When the Poetry don't come
When images are vacant
Skulls whitened by disuse and decay
And words leaden kites
What is a poet to do but stagger
Through the halls of his discontent
Flirting with a lost love, a road,
an opportunity missed, a compromise
Kicking and rummaging through the debris
Looking for signs of a golden age
Searching the wreckage for a promise,
sure and certain, of better days to come.
But, there are no better days that this --
No halcyon times before or beyond,
There are none more bitter than this day.
There is this and none other.
this started as a kickstart piece but it seemed better than that so i finished it.
i do not believe there's such a thing as a dry spell, just a mometary lasp into the creative imagination surrounding us.... the more we explore the innerand outer worlds, the more fluid is inspiration... by the way, for being dry you wrote a really good poem...
powerfully expressed write, vivid imagery...man, i hate dry spells, too. have them meself...although i call 'em brain farts. :) the older i'm gettin', the worse they're gettin'...if i don't write what pops up in my mind immediately, forget it, it's gone...excellent write! may your inspiration come back a thousand fold...(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :) happy holidays, john!
John, how I understand this so well. I am currently in a dry spell. Don't like those because I always get a little nervous about how long it will take to return. Well written.
i've been there, too. man, do i hate brain lock!! sometimes it's all i can do to keep from going mad; i want to write, but my brain just doesn't want to get into gear..like today..it's rainy, and my stupid arthritis is giving me hell! bah humbug, this rainy weather! i want SNOW for christmas, not thunderstorms or hail (we had hail this morning; karla and i each sucked on it!! was it ever COLD!!)! oh, well..maybe god will deliver; i sure miss the ohio white christmases!! :( a good write! may you have a very merry christmas and a very happy, healthy, prosperous new year! with much love, your friend, karen lynn. (((HUGS))) didn't sleep a WAHHHH last night, due to the heavy rain. i hate that...

Join me as we travel together on the road called "Aging." I will be sharing my personal experiences with you and offer ideas on how we can better navigate the complex byways of our older years. Grief, healing, generations, ancestors, and more.
Sherlyn Powell opens up about her love and devotion to her family and the overwhelming repercussion when communication breaks down. Heartbroken and distraught she learns to release her prayer and realize with faith God would reunite her family.
