We loved at eighteen, then we parted.
But the thought of you has grown within,
succubus robbing my soul, my joy, my now.
Not you, but the thought of you, bedevilling me
Stealing my peace,
Ours was first love, full of passion and discovery,
but ill-timed, opposed and fated to end.
The fault, if fault there was, was mine; you left me,
but only because you saw, understood and spoke
saner than I did.
Mine, too, is this monster that clings, claws at my breast,
Mine and no others. I have fought it, silenced it, expelled it
But always it is with me, lurking amongst my failures,
Sabotaging my successes, poisoning my memories
Killing my joy.
Blessings upon you, Dear One, long life and peace at the last.
As for me, what Priest can exorcise this demon?
What baptism wash away its venom and
return to me my peace and memories
of joy?

This is excellent!!
I don't know the answer to your footnote, but I think it helps to write. I believe that the only way to exorcise them, is to wake them, and then
destroy them. Say its name and you destroy it.
Hugs,
Maria
Keep it up and soon you will bloom anew.

May our Lord Bless you and help you with His powers.

Love the title....and the poem that followed. You Sir are very good! Some demons leave their mark....it all becomes part of the landscape of whom we are within...A fantastic write. Ty, Dani
As for the demons...writing may not silence them, but I have found if I give them their own voice, it frees my voice to sing.
-James
I do believe writing does and it lets you in silence let them know what you feel.
this is good stuff
