What did they promise you,
Those coyotes who took your money
And shut the hatches behind you:
Death in the airless dark? Did
They ever intend to let you out?
Doesn’t matter now, I guess.
None will ever pay for your deaths
You were only illegals, legal prey
For those who exploited your need
And sacrificed you to their greed.
Used, betrayed, and thrown away...’
The fate of illegals in the land of the free.
----------------------------+----------------------------------------
15 October 2002 N,Y. Times reported that the badly decomposed bodies of eleven illegal migrants were found sealed in a grain car in Iowa.
I did a search of the Times archives yesterday: there was one follow up story about 4 days later - then silence. A mass murder given no more notice than a fender-bender---

When I read a well written work I cry. This made me cry John. And I have no solution to stop my tears. So I will cry for a while. Thank you for this. Bill Murray
(((HUGS))) to those that suffer the indignities, trying to better themselves, trying to get to america, where dreams are supposed to come true...and shame to those that would exploit them...may they be found and punished most severely...put them in a box, or truck, with no food and water...let them suffer the same fate...excellent, heartwrenching write, dear. (((HUGS))) and love to you, for bringing this to our attention...karla. :(

One of the many atrocities that will no doubt never be addressed. Thanks for this one, John. (I left your answer to my poem, "For Nancy" in the comments section.)

Absolutely beautiful expression of the anger we should all feel for the tragedys happening due to the arrogance of assuming because you were born into a place you have the right to stop someone else. Pull down your fears, the world of material comes tumbling on down. Splendid.
maybe one day we will understand why???
