I stood on Citadel Hill, in 1990, While in the Harbour a Fleet made ready to sail. Halifax is going to war again From Halifax Shannon sailed in 1813 Here she brought proud Chesapeake As her prize of war Halifax is going to war again In 1915 the convoys formed in the basin to carrying the produce of a continent to mother England�s aid Halifax is going to war; In �17 the war came home The Mont Blanc blew up And leveled half the town. Halifax is going to war again. Corvettes in 1940 trudged off to seek the u-boats far below with depth bomb, aspic and 3 inch gun Halifax is going to war again Through Halifax lay the road to Pretoria, Passchendaele, and Vimy Dieppe, Monte Casino, Normandy Now Halifax is going to war, again. Another fleet readies in the Harbour, The fighting never, never ends After two centuries and more Halifax is going to war. Again. =====================================
and again, and again--etc, we never learn

Great poem, the content rteminded me of an Irish song, the melody is very ancient (and similar to "The Streets of Laredo" and the modern lyric is called "The Green Fields of France" That was written sometime in the 1930s. Why do we have to keep going through the same loop?
