i learned in school that the northern lights are caused by charged particles interacting with the earth's magnetic field . . . after spending sometime among the Cree people of northern Ontario i descovered that the reality is somewhat different. i post this as something of a gloss on Retta McKenzie's fine poem I Believe in Magic. ---30---

The magic of the Northern Lights will always thrill me and I have enjoyed this. In the West (B.C. and AB)legend has it that if you whistle while you see the lights strange things will happen.
