Grandpa used to say, “I caught them all.”
We’d laugh at the enormous boast.
Then patiently he taught me to fish
Over the years I’ve fished many streams
where I’ve caught a few fish, or not. But
With each cast I better understand
what my father’s father was talking about:
The Grand River was his stream and he
fished his way, in his time: His son’s sons
have found, must find, our own streams
our own streams to fish in our Time.
Times change, fishermen change
