Steamy nights, can't sleep
Southern heat, can't breathe
Ceiling fan spinning
Bringing no relieve
Just plain old southern heat.

Nothing working out
God! so am I
Stuck here like glue
Along tobacco road
nothing in reality to do
Just singing the blues
It's always the same
Day and night.

Sleeping or walking
Working or resting
Body odor, night and day
Looking for work
Traveling light
A wrap for a pack
That's all I can hack
Times are hard.

Working for a meal
Boss man, looking for a deal
Offered me a fews weeks
an honest man, honest work
good deal, hard to turn down
A bed
Don't have to beg
Now I might get some rest
Sounds good, struck gold
Boss man offered me a beer
Whispering a salary in my ear.

Times are hard
Holes in my shoes,
No more
What the heck
Days are hot and sweaty
Need a job
Need a bath
need some rest.

Really enjoyed this hard time ode, William. Could almost see this as a song - Old Tobacco Road.

I sweating like Hamxa's arm pits, so humid here.

I can hear the old rail way builders singing this.
