Soon my favorite time of the year will arrive "Thanksgiving" when we all give our thanks.

Here I render you a little bit of the rattlesnake (reality).

~~*~~
Thanksgiving In A Box
~~*~~

Happy Holidays, are here again
As he crawls,
into his cardboard box
To keep dry, and wring out
His wet socks.
~~*~~

At a distance
He can hear the jingle bells
Of a corner Santa
And exchanges of meaningful
Season's Greetings.
~~*~~

He clinches his teeth,
Fighting back many tears
For he can not control
Memories of past years.
~~*~~

The smiles,
Of his grandchildren
As he once handed,
Their awaiting gifts
He visioned their fantasies
On their lovely faces.
~~*~~

As he searched in the darkness
For his dry banket
Within his sheltered box
And for the bottle
To keep
Atleast his thoughts
In dryer places.
~~*~~

The heart of reality is definitely a hard one. It is so sad to know that there are many people who must endure an existence such as this.

Dear William,

This is most certainly my favourite time of the year, yet it can often be the saddest and loneliest time too. Your last stanza really choked me up, very sad reflections William, however still well written.

Dear William,

When my children were younger I used to tell them stories and I always knew when I had hit the spot when I would see tears in their eyes. You hit the spot with this one. I am wiping tears from my face right now. I love a poem that elicits such deep emotion.
How many dreams lie shattered in cardboard boxes on our streets.
Thank you William. Your heart shines through.

that rattlesnake has quite a bite... that we all might share something of our gratitude by giving where we can to help those less fortunate. thanks for this,
