Allow not, the lone piper
To play amazing grace
Upon my grave
Nor the bugler to play echo taps
Within the forest, of a cemetery.
For I'll be soon home
My sweetheart.
I only want to embrace you
Within my arms
So I may croon
For you a tune
Neath the silvery beams
Of a pale blue, full moon.
I am sadden by thoughts
Of our buddies, Left behind
As I looked
Towards the heavens scenes.
There! there! There!
There is Piccolo, Kowalsky, O'Hara,
Smith, Gonzales, Jackson and Pearlman
See how smartly they salute
In their dress blues
As they stand Guard
At the Pearly Gates
I said to Johnny
As we, came marching home.
This is a bittersweet write, William. I feel happiness for the soldier who will be coming home, and sadness for his fellow soldiers who never will. You portray with excellence, how the heart of a soldier never faulters, even in death. Very well done!
Take care,
Sherry
Too many reminders herein, Bill, too many friends left in a jungle of pain...you have said a great deal in two paragraphs...Hopefully Peace will someday come...Ed & Rufuz
