Deep in thought In the middle of a day In quite a crowded place A couple at a table Near By. For some reason He caught my attention I sat to refresh myself A break from shopping On these Holidays From my flank he approached Asked, if I was a Marine Reached out to shake my hand I shook his. He was older then I Hair completely white Strong hand shake Hard callus, firm grip. Said, "Thank you, for your service" I was wearing a Marine Corp Veteran's cap. He made me feel Tall and proud As he said, "I was in the army" You see! He was a World War 11 Vet. This was an encounter We understood, without a word As he continued, on his way We wished each other Happy Holidays. By: William Bonilla 12/24/04

The bond of soldiers is one no one else will ever understand. It is a silent knowledge shared by each of them. This is a wonderful and warm write, William. Thank you for reminding everyone that freedom comes at a very high price and that those who have served have every right to be proud and to be thanked for their time served. THANK YOU from the bottom of my very Red, White and Blue heart and Merry Christmas to you!
