Faces were sadly the same
Mourners, mournfully lost
In the pain,
Deep within their souls
A pain not to be compared
"I know how you feel'
Won't be heard there.
I entered to pay my respects
I thought
Wanted to sit behind
So I need not, view the remains
Mourners, passing me by
Sad, smiling, sobbing, crying
Placing a hand on my shoulder
Patting me gently
This continued, all through the night
At end all went home.
I was left alone
As I tried to rise
I was unable
Yet my body ached nomore.
I wanted to leave also
As all others had done
I wanted to yell for help
Words won't exit my lips.
Deep inside, I was beginning to panic
So I waited patiently
Someone entered
To flick off, the lights
I was relieved,
a smile crossed my face.
He lowered the lid,
Turned off the lights
The room went dark
As I heard him say,
Not in his voice
But in his thoughts
"I could swear he'd smiled.'

Wow! William, perhaps it isn't the appropriate word, but in the world of poetry, I found this to be very clever, eerily so, yes, but unique and clever, indeed.
You show great talent, I think, for letting the reader see what you see... a perspective that I've not read before. When I finished reading, I knew that this one would linger, not only because it's a well-thought out and written piece, but because it's also very absorbing. Great stuff! katy xox.
A profoundly moving piece, William. Unmatchable bittersweetness... You've lost someone dear to your heart; my condolences, dear Poet.
Love and Peace to you,
Carolyn
You have captured anyones funeral wake quite well...now don't you be contemplating leaving this world anytime soon, you are needed and appreciated...Peace, Ed & Rufuz
